With the women’s football kicking off the Olympics in just a few hours in Cardiff, Welsh star Katherine Jenkins is warming up her vocal chords to cheer on the UK athletes as an official ambassador.
As sports stars and spectators gear up to watch the women's football this afternoon, Katherine Jenkins is preparing to raise her voice to support Team GB as one of the London 2012 Games ambassadors.
While she might be more famous for her vocal gymnastics, Jenkins is no stranger to the world of sporting events. She has preformed at events ranging from Welsh rugby internationals to the Epsom races, and at the Olympic Games handover party outside Buckingham Palace.
The Welsh singer said she was very proud to be involved as an ambassador, and was pleased to be basking in the glory in London and around the rest of the UK.
“I just think it's going to be a very special thing and just wonderful to be part of,” she said. “I'm going to be really rallying support for Team GB.”
The idea behind the ambassadors is to help British athletes and inspire the wider Team GB to achieve their ambitions. They will provide a public face to inspire and motivate the millions of Team GB supporters across the UK.
Other musical faces lending their support to the Olympics this week have included pianist Lang Lang, who carried the Torch on Sunday, and Esa-Pekka Salonen, Principal Conductor of the Philharmonia Orchestra, who will be taking part in the relay tomorrow.
